Small businesses come and go and the incident you face is certainly not unique. If you've read press reports, many people were cheated out of thousands of dollars. (Although in your case, it sounds more like a case of bad recording keeping on both sides rather than an outright attempt to cheat. That's why I avoid signing packages like the plague. The spa was bought over by new owners in 2010, and they had no records of my package bought prior to the takeover. The stance of the spa was that I was asserting my ownership of a package with no proof, when all I did was just walk in to inquire about how many sessions I had left. In buying over a spa, the owner owes it to customers to take over proper records anyway. After trying to make me sound like I was not being reasonable, the spa agreed to honor the package out of goodwill (?!). Customer service was not helpful and the owner was rude.
